a while ago we stumbled upon an archive of all these amazing, really old illustrations of monsters and mythical beasts. the hand-drawn illustrations are incredibly expressive and interesting, so i took a couple, and used them as inspiration for this wallpaper. i also thought that that handmade quality makes the illustrations adapt particularly well to the grunge/distressed look that’s really popular and that i really dig. this wallpaper uses fonts by Douglas Vitkauskas, aka VTKS Design, who does really amazing work and we’re huge fans and use his fonts all the time. All of his fonts can be found at dafont.com and fontspace.com.
this time around, i also did a variation with a calendar. i really enjoy the whole calendar desktop wallpaper thing; i like how it necessitates changing things around every month to keep your visual style fresh and interesting, and i like the usefulness of just being able to look at the desktop to know what the date is.
both the calendar and non-calendar versions are available in widescreen and 4:3 formats in the following sizes:
