We were going through our texture packs and uncovered this one from almost a year ago that got lost in the cracks. This texture pack is perfect for the Fall months, with several high quality images of dry leaves in orange and yellow and red. A pair of warm wood textures rounds out the mix.

Free October Calendar Wallpaper: Good Morning

This month’s wallpaper comes out of a long-exposure shot I took sometime in the pre-dawn hours a couple months ago. As I was staring at my computer screen at more or less the same time, it seemed an appropriate start for a new wallpaper. Free Texture Pack: Capitol Reef, Utah

This collection of 17 high quality textures all come from a recent trip we took to Capitol Reef, in southern Utah. The landscape is amazing, it’s like visiting Mars — except with a breathable atmosphere. There are these vast canyons that flash flood frequently in heavy rain, so the canyon walls are carved by the water — in many ways it is like walking along the bottom of the ocean. (Find out more about Capitol Reef from the National Park Service) It was a great chance to snap up some really cool textures.

Free Desktop Wallpaper: Noir

She eased back in her chair and took a pull on her cigarette. For having just told her that he suspected his wife was murdered, this John didn’t look too concerned. “Alright,” she cooed, “I’ll take the case. My fees are pricey, but you can afford it. I’ll need you to start by telling me where you were on the night of your wife’s death…”

We’ve been working on some projects recently with a film noir feel, so have been doing quite a bit of visual research on the style. This wallpaper is inspired by classic and neo-noir films like Chinatown with a bit of a twist; rather than the typical, square jawed, male PI starring, I wanted to play with the idea of the classic film noir archetypes with a female lead instead. We have a film noir wallpaper already, but this one is more about the look and aesthetics of the films rather than the 1940s and ’50s posters.

As always, we have widescreen and standard versions available and we’ve included an iphone version as well. This wallpaper is calendar-only, and the zip file contains versions in the following sizes:

This is a theme we revisit often: wood textures. You can create anything from really rustic or wild-west-y looks to really sophisticated and dignified designs with different types of wood textures. For that reason, it’s always good to have some good wood textures in your arsenal that you can pull out when you need them. Here’s a few we found, and we plan on adding to this set fairly often. Free Texture Pack: Random Objects

This pack is actually a bunch of random objects. We’ve had the benefit of staying at an awesome beach house in La Selva, California, and one of the things that makes this place unique is that it’s full of all this great vintage stuff. We didn’t have time to photograph nearly as much as we wanted to. Hopefully we’ll get a chance to visit again and add to this set.
