This was a really fun project because it gave us the opportunity to play with some really cool fonts and textures, as well as showcase the fantastic Featured Content Gallery plugin.  Also, this site was a referral from The Urban Pastor, so it was sort of a double-score.

Pastor Marvin was a fairly new blogger, but passionate about connecting with social networks like FaceBook, Twitter, YouTube and LinkedIn.  It was important to him to have a site which made his various profiles prominent and easy to get access to.  This was also a TypePad conversion — so we imported all his posts and comments from his old TypePad blog into a fantabulous WordPress 2.7 install on his own server.  He also wanted to use IntenseDebate for comments, and — that being one of my favorite plugins — we were happy to oblige.

This theme is also exciting because of its’ unique, magazine-style, 3-column layout.  We used the sleek Myriad Pro font for all the text as a highly readable contrast to the grunge elements in the titles and graphics.  I’m a big fan of the magazine style blog at the moment, because it really pulls the visitor into the site.  Blogs often have, in my opinion, way too many posts on each page; I don’t think there are many people who are going to scroll all the way down to the 10th blog post at the bottom of the page, especially when the blogger is posting full articles, not excerpts.  We used a model which features the last 3 posts — the most recent with a dominant heading and large type, and the previous two underneath in separate columns.  Each post displays just an excerpt, inviting visitors to read more and take part in the discussion by commenting.  Organizing the blog this way, gives the site a clean, uncluttered, and professional feel.

WordPress plugins used: IntenseDebate, Featured Content Gallery, ShareThis, Shutter Reloaded, Simple Recent Comments
